Welcome to Camden

Camden is in the “Midcoast” area of Maine and sits on Penobscot Bay. It has a rich history and is considered a jewel of Maine. It’s ideal for water-lovers and outdoor explorers, which makes it a popular summer destination.

Camden has a rich history. Historic homes line the downtown streets, as does a historical library. The downtown area also boasts many upscale shops, restaurants, and general stores. While the population may double over the summer, the year-round residents are never at a loss for fun activities.

Most homes are single-family ranches or colonials, and many plots offer extensive land.

People and Lifestyle

Camden is a small, suburban town. Its coastal location offers a secluded, natural feel, while its popular downtown area gives Camden its personality. No matter where you look, Camden oozes coastal charm.

Camden is best for families and retirees. The schools are strong, and the plethora of downtown options keep families entertained. The opportunity to lead a quiet, secluded life is also one of Camden’s most appealing characteristics.

Dining, Shopping, & Entertainment

In such a nautical town, it’s no surprise that some of Camden’s best traditions center around the water!

In the winter months, you can ski right across from the sea at the Camden Snow Bowl. The Snow Bowl also hosts the annual Toboggan National Championships! Competitors come from far and wide to race down this toboggan chute.

For a small town, Camden sure does know how to do food! Sit by the bay and enjoy seafood at Salt Wharf. For some upscale Italian dining, head to 40Paper. You could also head to Long Grain for the best Asian cuisine in the area.

Things to Do

Camden takes advantage of its location to offer both residents and visitors a whole coastal experience.

Each Labor Day weekend, Camden hosts the Windjammer Festival. Founded by Annie Higbee, it’s the largest gathering of schooners in the northeast. Boaters gather to celebrate the maritime heritage and its importance to Camden. It’s fun for the whole family!
