Introducing The 1812 House, one of the most iconic and revered homes on Deer Isle. Perched on a hill overlooking Deer Isle's Northwest Harbor, this historic home has been meticulously cared for and appropriately updated including a window-filled addition to the south side of the house. Being more or less grounded in the region during the War of 1812, Captain Marshall employed his crew to build this home in this commanding location at the center of the island. Rough, hand-hewn logs provide support to this handsome home with wide pine boards, original trim and unique built-in cabinetry. The rooms are spacious with each one offering a different feel and character. The heart of the house is the magnificent chimney with 5 fireplaces including the large, period kitchen Cook's Hearth. Two ample bedrooms on the second floor include built-in bookshelves westerly windows and conveniently each has a full bathroom. A third, bonus room currently serves as a laundry room and office space with a view to NW Harbor. Stairs from the second floor lead to a finished third floor with two distinct spaces, one of which serves as a third bedroom. The grounds include plenty of lawn and a mix of mature trees along with garden beds, lilacs and a field adorned with lupine and wildflowers. This home and setting has been the inspiration for a number of published books and provided the backdrop for interviews with their author. 1812 House is centrally located on the Island and across the road from Island Heritage Trust's Lily Pond Park and trails featuring the most popular, fresh water swimming on Deer Isle.
